On 10 August a memorial plaque was officially ‘unveiled’ at Newstead Terrace Park, Brisbane in honour of the heroic Coastwatchers of World War II. Although the last two Coastwatchers, Jim Burrowes, aged 101 and Ron ‘Dixie’ Lee aged 100, passed away in July 2024 within 12 hours of one another, present were some descendants of the nearly 700 Coastwatchers who served the nation. The event, which was held at nearby Newstead House, attended by nearly 100 people, including the Lord Mayor, Adrian Schrinner.
