Laser weapon being developed for Royal Navy

More than £300m is being invested in the Royal Navy’s first laser weapon after it downed high-velocity drones in latest trials. The success of the latest DragonFire firings has prompted Whitehall to sign a £316m contract with defence firm MBDA UK to continue developing the weapon – and install it on a Type 45 Daring class destroyer within two years.
