The Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison’s release of the Strategic Update 2020 had considerable coverage and commentary in the Indian media. This would have been unusual a couple of years back, but not any longer.

Of late, there is much greater coherence of thought, bilaterally between New Delhi and Canberra and quadrilaterally when Tokyo and Washington DC are added. I feel there are two main reasons for this level of interest. The first is the very clear articulation of where Australia wants to be and the evident concerns about China as well as the substantial upgrade that Australia now intends for the ADF. The second was India’s own situation on the Himalayan borders with China.
