ANI at 50: Medium Power Navies in the 21st Century

The argument mounted in the just released A Maritime Strategy for Australia that medium powers like Australia must have a balanced fleet is certainly not new. Captain (later Rear Admiral) James Goldrick gave this paper to the 1999 Royal Thai Navy Seminar on the future of medium power navies. Among other things it was a clear articulation of the importance of a balanced fleet. His paper was published in the Summer 2000-2001 edition of the Journal of the Australian Naval Institute.
