The Navy met its recruiting goal for Fiscal Year 2026 three months before the fall deadline, the sea service announced last week. The Navy brought in 45,000 new recruits, according to a Thursday news release, marking the third year in a row the sea service met its goals. Unlike the previous two fiscal years, the Navy increased its goal to 45,000, up from 40,600, US Naval News reports.
Navy Recruiting Command has worked over the past three years to accelerate applicant timelines, especially with medical waivers, and overcome other obstacles. The Navy also increased its advertising and recruiting budget this fiscal year by 5 percent.
“Today’s Navy is stronger because tens of thousands of Americans chose to answer the call to serve,” Rear Adm. Jim Waters, commander ofNavy Recruiting Command, said in the news release. “Reaching this milestone is not simply about achieving a recruiting objective – it’s about delivering the talented Sailors our Fleet needs to maintain readiness in an increasingly complex security environment.”
Increasing the recruiting goal is on target with the Navy’s goal to increase its overall active-duty end strength in Fiscal Year 2027.
The Navy is aiming for an active-duty end strength of 356,000 up from 352,820 for FY 2026, USNI News previously reported.
By the end of the current fiscal year, the Navy’s end strength will have approximately 8,000 active-duty enlisted sailors more than in FY 2025, a Navy official said.
Navy Recruiting Command will continue to process applicants, which will help strengthen the delayed entry program, a pool of recruits who are not immediately sent to boot camp.
The Navy release did not include the FY 2027 goal. The Navy’s budget books list an estimated goal of 36,900 for FY 2027.
