Brigadier General Clearfield has extensive operational experience serving across the world in theatres from the Middle East to the Pacific.
Brigadier General Clearfield served as the Commanding Officer, Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit where he served as Mission Commander for recapture of the M/V Magellan Star in 2010. The MV Magellan Star was attacked and detained by Pirates off the coast of Somalia. In the early hours of the morning on 9 September 2010 the crew and vessel were liberated by a United States Marine Corps team.
