Rising Tensions in the Indo-Pacific: Stabilising the Maritime Environment through Region Building and Strategic Responses

Introduction

With the maritime domain so important and influential to the world’s history, politics and security, and to the global economy, the prosperous region of the Indo-Pacific has become a hub of activity for many states. Comprising 24 nations in its regional framework, the Indo-Pacific is at the centre of approximately two-thirds of the global economy, and currently seven of the world’s largest militaries engage in operations in the region.[1]
