The Naval Graves Project is a volunteer group that researches, locates, photographs & if possible tends the last resting place of sailors of the Royal Navy, Australian Colonial Navies, Commonwealth Naval Forces & the Royal Australian Navy pre 1914. The volunteer group has grown in membership and is looking out for all naval graves within Australian territory.

These graves are not maintained by any Navy or organisation. Many of these men or women had no kin in the country to tend their graves. They are overgrown and in need of general clean up. The project has in excess of 300 sites within metro Sydney and more interstate. The Naval Studies Project has a Facebook page. For more information go to https://www.facebook.com/groups/288683134558852/about/ The site includes stories about the men and events that led to their deaths. It will attempt to highlight their contribution to Australia and see that they are not forgotten. New members to the Project are welcome.

  1. It has been wonderful to find this resting place of George Ritchie. It has been nearly 100 years since the unfortunate incident on board HMAS Brisbane. Thank for showing the interest in my uncle George who I never met, and very little war known about him until we start looking at Family History. I do have a very good photograph of George. Which I would be delighted to provide a copy for your records.
