HMAS Melville decommissions

The hydrographic ship HMAS Melville decommissioned in a ceremony at Trinity Wharf in Cairns on 8 August. In her 24 years of service, Melville steamed 575,808 nautical miles and contributed over 32,000 nautical miles of surveying. In addition to her hydrographic surveys, Melville also took part in border protection operations, search and rescue, disaster relief and participated in major exercises.

The Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Hammond said, “Thank you to all those who have served our nation onboard HMAS Melville over the last 24 years, and to their families for their strength and support in enabling our people to be at sea. Melville’s crew have served with excellence and professionalism, living up to the ship’s motto, “With Determination”, and on behalf of the RAN –  BZ!”
