On 22 August Master Chief Information Systems Technician Angela Koogler became the first woman to be Chief of the Boat in the US submarine service when she joined the ballistic missile submarine USS Louisiana (SSBN 743). The Chief of the Boat, or COB, is the senior enlisted advisor to the commanding officer and executive officer in a USN submarine.
