Escorting tankers through Hormuz

India and Pakistan mobilized their respective fleets to protect nationally-owned tankers in the Gulf of Oman as traffic trickles through the Strait of Hormuz in the single digits, US Naval Institute News reports.

Warships from India and Pakistan were identified Saturday by open-source trackers escorting the countries’ tankers near the Strait of Hormuz. It is the first example of countries providing escort services. The U.S. is studying providing protection for ships but no American escorts have occurred.
