The Australian Naval Institute has announced the inauguration of the Commodore Sam Bateman Book Award. The prize will be awarded annually to recognise excellence in published books making a major contribution to the study and understanding of naval and maritime matters.
The award is named in perpetuity after Commodore Sam Bateman AM RAN who joined the Australian Naval Institute in its Foundation Year and is in recognition of his dedication in raising greater awareness of naval and maritime matters and progressing the understanding and value of navies in society.
This Award is judged each year (annually) from 2021 by a panel of judges nominated by the ANI. It will be awarded to the book that is judged to make naval and maritime matters more accessible to a mass audience through exciting and engaging content. A focus on books promoting the understanding of naval and maritime matters in Australia will be afforded highest priority.
Details of the Award will be published early in 2021.
