It was reported on 11 March that Rear Admiral Nicholas Tilbrook, Commander, Submarine Group 9, relieved Captain Kurt Balagna as Commanding Officer of the Ohio-class guided-missile submarine USS Ohio (SSGN 726) (Gold Crew) due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command.

The prospective commanding officer, Captain Andrew Cain, has assumed duties as commanding officer.
The US Navy said “commanding officers are held to high standards of personal and professional conduct. They are expected to uphold the highest standards of responsibility, reliability and leadership, and the Navy holds them accountable when they fall short of those standards.”
