Daniel J. Boorstin, the twentieth-century historian, warned that the danger in modern societies was not ignorance, but the illusion that we already know. In an era where artificial intelligence (AI) produces fluent answers at speed, that warning has renewed relevance.

Recent maritime operations in and around the Arabian Gulf reinforce a familiar truth: targeting at sea is unforgiving.
