Canada’s national shipbuilding strategy ‘bizarre’

DAVIE yard has offered to refit existing ships available at steep discounts due to slowdown in oil industry. The nearly 50-year-old Canadian Coast Guard Ship Louis St-Laurent, Canada’s only large icebreaker, is due for yet another refit at the Davie yard. The yard is offering to replace it, but the federal government says it won’t accept ‘unsolicited’ bids.
