Towards Australian nuclear-powered submarines

It always made sense for Australia to acquire nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs) for their range and endurance. That’s what the RAN wanted as a follow-on to the conventionally-powered Australian-built Collins-class submarines – but the 2007 Navy review team was told by government that nuclear power was not an option.
