The eruption of hysteria on both sides of the political sphere, coincidently in the middle of an election campaign, has again demonstrated the immaturity of national security debate in this country. The clumsily worded leaked ‘draft’ security agreement between China and the Solomon Islands includes Chinese police assistance to ’protect Chinese interests and property’, presumably against Solomon Islands citizens.
