Malaysian Navy conducts Malacca Strait exercise

The Royal Malaysian Navy’s (RMN) Western Fleet conducted Exercise Pangkor Siri 2/2024 in the northern waters of the Malacca Strait on 13 and 14 August. Pangkor Siri 2/2024 involved four ships, namely the offshore patrol vessel Tereng Ganu, the corvettes Lekir, Laksamana Tun Abdul Jamil, the minehunter KinabaluI along with two Fast Combat Boats supported in the air by two RMAF FA-18D fighters and an embarked Fennec helicopter.

The RMN, also known as Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia (TLDM), stated that Exercise Pangkor Siri 2/2024 was “designed to hone the fleet’s capabilities and preparedness in facing combat situations and maritime crises in state waters. It aims to ensure the readiness of the ships involved in dealing with threats from various aspects as well as increasing the competence and knowledge of the Navy People.” It went on to say that, “This exercise shows the preparedness of the TLDM Western Fleet in facing any threats and challenges in strategic water areas such as the Melaka Strait. This exercise also proves TLDM’s commitment to the country’s maritime defence, which is always at the highest level in ensuring the safety and sovereignty of Malaysia’s waters is maintained. TLDM – Standby, Sovereignty Maintained.”
