
On 18 June 2025 the Indian Navy commissioned the first of the class of Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), INS Arnala, at the Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan presided over the commissioning ceremony.
It is planned that sixteen of the 78 metre and 1,500 tonne ASW-SWCs will be built. They are each armed with one 30mm gun, a RBU-6000 anti-submarine rocket launcher and two triple torpedo tubes for the Advanced Lightweight torpedo. In addition, the ships will be able deploy sea mines. The Arnala class have both a hull mounted and a variable depth sonar and are propelled by water-jet propulsion with a top speed to 25 knots
