As part of an ongoing ‘interchangeability’ deployment HMAS Brisbane (DDG-41) is undergoing a scheduled maintenance period at US Naval Base San Diego, Australian Defence Magazine reports.

The work is being completed by a combined Australian and American workforce and builds on previous maintenance interchangeability activities and exercises. The US Navy’s South West Regional Maintenance Center and various contractors are supporting the effort.

Brisbane departed HMAS Kuttabul in August for a five-month deployment to the US focused on building interchangeability with the US Navy.

“Interchangeability enables Australian and US ships and squadrons to integrate fully into each other’s fleet and operate seamlessly. Interchangeability can encompass systems, weapons, procedures, logistics, training and the understanding and working relationships between people at all levels,” Defence said on its website.

HMAS Brisbane is being hosted in San Diego by USS Mustin (DDG-89).
