Cold War Command: The Dramatic Story of a Nuclear Submariner. By Dan Conley and Richard Woodman. Seaforth Publishing, Barnsley, 2014.

THE early chapters of this book can be easily skimmed, being just another account of the eccentric and often thoroughly enjoyable life of a junior officer in diesel submarines in the 1960s. The Royal Navy had squadrons based in Singapore, Australia, Malta and Canada, although Dan Conley seems to have spent most of his time in the Clyde, a base which took itself a bit more seriously.
