China conducts naval exercise in East Africa

Warships from the Peoples Liberation Army-Navy (PLA-N) has conducted Exercise Peace Unity 2024 with the defence forces of Mozambique and Tanzania between 6-8 August. The PLA-N warships involved were the guided-missile destroyer Hefei and the amphibious ships Wuzhishan  and Qilianshan. The Hefei and Wuzhishan operated with four Tanzanian patrol boats operating out of Dar es Salaam whilst Qilianshan exercised with Mozambique forces.

The exercise activities included joint maritime patrols, visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS), maritime rescue as well as anti-terrorism and anti-piracy training. Prior to the sea phase the participants conducted a harbour training phase involving preliminary training and held discussions on operational command, tactical techniques, and other related matters.
