In 2002 in successive editions of the Journal of the Australian Naval Institute there were articles about command and sea. The first on ship command and in the Winter 2002 edition an article about Task Group command. For the RAN, task group command in operations or war has been exercised by relatively few officers. This article was written by Captain (later Rear Admiral) Allan du Toit who had recently exercised task group command of both the RAN Task Group and the coalition Maritime Interception Force (MIF) in the Arabian Gulf.
