The University of Tasmania’s Australian Maritime College will host a new Naval Research Centre in partnership with Navantia Australia, Australian Defence Magazine reports.
The partnership brings together AMC’s research capabilities and Navantia Australia’s industrial naval design capability. It will allow for industry collaboration between AMC’s academics and students with Navantia Australia staff.
The Centre will focus on ship building and design research including innovations to keep Australian vessels and sailors safe during naval operations as well as improvements to the efficiency and environmental footprint of vessels.
“This collaboration will advance critical research needed for the Royal Australian Navy in niche areas such as platform signatures, hull form optimisation, ship system optimisation, and model-based simulations for digital twins.”
The Naval Research Centre will officially begin operations in early 2025.
