N-subs causing defence spending squeeze

All arms of Defence are under pressure to make savings to help fund the nuclear-powered submarine (SSN) program while dealing with impact of inflation, the Australian Strategic Policy Institute reports.

The total resourcing for Defence over the three years to 2025-26 of $172 billion, provided under yesterday’s budget, is only 2.5% ahead of the $168 billion budgeted by the previous government over the same period before last year’s election.
