Emerging technologies and workforce development will be the focus of this year’s Submarine Institute of Australia (SIA) conference, the leading forum in the Asia-Pacific region for information-sharing and debate on submarine matters.

The SIA has issued a formal public call for conference participation on these and other related submarine topics from the Australian Government, overseas governments, academia, industry representatives and other relevant organisations.

“This year’s event will be the 4th Submarine Science, Technology and Engineering Conference – SubSTEC4 – and it’s shaping up to be our best technical conference yet,” said the Executive Director of the SIA, David Nicholls.

“The SIA is pleased to announce the theme of this year’s conference is: ‘The Australian Submarine Capability – Consolidating Emerging Technologies and Developing the Submarine Workforce’.”

Topics which will be addressed at the conference include multi-national considerations of sovereignty, intellectual property management, transfer of sensitive technology, applied research, development, test and evaluation, systems integration and team/individual training and development.

Mr Nicholls said: “The SIA is seeking papers for formal peer-reviewed publication and oral presentations from submarine experts from Australia and around the world.

“While there will be presentations at the conference on a range of submarine matters, the issue of sovereignty will be one of the highest profile issues given the importance of Australia maintaining a sovereign submarine capability.”

The deadline for abstracts of proposed papers is 21 April.

SubSTEC4 will be held in Adelaide from 13-16 November.
