Russian research ship returns to Arctic after 30 years

vesselFOR first time in 30 years the Russian Navy oceanographic research ship ADMIRAL VLADIMIRSKY is performing a cruise to the Antarctic, says press centre of RF Defence Ministry.

Since the start of the expedition, the ship has already performed hydrographic survey of 21,700 km the sea bottom.

Military topographers have carried out over 100 research works at the depths of up to 2000 metres. On January 9, the ship visited the port of Cape Town.

At the present time, the ADMIRAL VLADIMIRSKY continues the cruise in the areas where the Indian Ocean borders the Atlantic Ocean in stormy weather (wind – about 20 metres per second, waves – 5 balls).

Russia’s Navy looks to 42 new ships in 2016

Russia’s Navy expects to receive 42 new ships and vessels and another 15 will be laid down, the head of the Navy’s shipbuilding management department, Captain 1st Rank Vladimir Tryapichnikov said (in a program) aired by the Russian News Service radio station on Saturday.

“In 2016 we are planning to get 42 surface combatant ships, boats and fleet support ships,” he said. “Also, we have plans to lay down 15 warships, boats and support ships.”

Tryapichnikov also said the multipurpose strike frigate Admiral Gorshkov incorporating stealth technologies would become operational in the Russian Navy in 2016 after tests.
