On 1 April 1953 HMAS Nirimba was commissioned as the second RAN FAA Station at Scholfields NSW. The following year it was closed following cuts to the Defence Budget.
Also on this day the in 1992 the last naval pilots graduated at the RAAF’s No 1 Flying School at Point Cook before training moved to RAAF Base Pearce.
